Our Second Saturday hikes resume as summer is winding down. Start your morning with a guided hike led by our trained docents. You’ll see some great views from the top of Big Hill and learn a little about the local flora and fauna, our organization, and our mission to protect natural and agriculture land in Placer County for current and future generations. The Big Hill Preserves contain unusual rock formations, the gently flowing Raccoon Creek, and spectacular panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada foothills and Sacramento Valley. The hike begins at 8:00am.
DISTANCE: The hike will be approximately 4 miles, and may take 3-4 hours depending on the pace of the group and how many stops are made along the way.
DIFFICULTY: Moderate with uphill and downhill travel, on uneven ground and rough terrain.
We have a “leave no trace” policy – if you pack it in, please pack it out.
Sorry, NO dogs are allowed on our Preserves, unless service animals.
This is a wilderness outing in a natural setting: there are no restrooms, benches, or water available. Please plan ahead and bring what you will need.
Children under age 8 are not recommended for this hike, but please use your discretion as you know your child best. Parents are responsible for their children.
We suggest you wear sturdy shoes, clothing appropriate for the weather conditions, and a hat, sunscreen, and/or mosquito repellent.
Bring plenty of water and a brown bag lunch or snacks to enjoy along the way. Don’t forget your camera!
