Come with us as we explore nature under the full moon on Saturday, October 7, on our last moonlight hike of the season.  Our trained docents will be your guides for the evening, which starts at 6pm. This will be our last moonlight hike until next spring.

The trail at our Big Hill Preserves has unusual rock formations, the beautiful Raccoon Creek, and panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada foothills and Sacramento Valley – all of which will look completely different at dusk and as the night grows darker. The moon light is sure to add to your visual experience.

For this hike, you’ll need to bring either a headlamp or a flashlight.

The hike is approximately 4+ miles, and you should expect it to take 3 to 4 hours.  We try to slow it down a bit for safety since part of the hiking occurs in the dark.

Difficulty:  Moderate to strenuous with uphill and downhill travel, uneven ground and rough terrain. This could be a little more difficult as the evening grows darker.

This is a wilderness outing in a natural setting:  there are no restrooms, benches, or water available. Please plan ahead and bring what you will need.

We suggest you wear sturdy shoes, wear clothing appropriate for the weather conditions, and bring a flashlight or headlamp. You may also want walking sticks if you have them. Bring plenty of water and snacks to enjoy along the way, and mosquito repellant. If you have a camera that takes low light pictures, bring it along too!

We have a “leave no trace” policy – if you pack it in, please pack it out.

Sorry, dogs are not allowed on our Preserves, unless service animals. We don’t recommend this hike for kids under age 12.

Participants must sign the release of liability located here: 2017 Blank Liability Waiver Photo release_revAug17    Please print and bring it with you.

There is no charge, but we do ask for a minimum donation of $10 per person. Your donation allows us to continue offering these hikes and keeps you informed of other upcoming events. We accept cash or checks at the event, or make your donation online in advance at https://www.placerlandtrust.org/donate/ .

The hike begins at 6:00pm in North Auburn. Directions will be automatically emailed after registration is complete (if you do not receive the directions your registration did not go through.)  You may sign up for yourself and your immediate household only. Other guests are asked to register for themselves.

This event is limited to 20 people and fills up quickly.  If you have any questions, please contact our office at 530-887-9222.
