Join us for a leisurely three-hour winter bird walk through the diverse habitat of the Doty Ravine Preserve. A surprising variety of birdlife, both resident and winter visitors, can be found within this preserve’s grassland, oak-woodland, wetland, and riparian areas. After spending a couple hours viewing birds in the preserve, we will conclude the walk with a stroll through the adjacent Manzanita Cemetery.
This guided walk begins at 10:00am and will be led by our volunteer docent Deren Ross. Deren is a naturalist with many years of experience as a birder, including the coordination of the Christmas bird count for nearly 20 years.

DISTANCE: The walk will be less than 2 miles.
DIFFICULTY: This is a relatively easy walk on mostly flat, pasture land. We will be off trails much of the time, so waterproof shoes are recommended.
This is a wilderness outing in a natural setting: there are NO restrooms, benches, or water available. Please plan ahead and bring what you will need.
We suggest you wear sturdy, waterproof shoes or boots and clothing appropriate for the weather conditions. Be prepared for wet conditions. Rain will cancel this event and we will attempt to reschedule.
Bring water and snacks to enjoy along the way.
Bring binoculars, field guides if you have them, and your camera.
This walk is not suited for younger children since we’ll need to move quietly to view the birds.
We have a “leave no trace” policy – if you pack it in, please pack it out.
Sorry, dogs are NOT allowed on our Preserves, unless service animal.
Participants must sign a release of liability included here: 2017 Blank Liability Waiver Photo release_revAug17 Please print it and bring it with you. (one form per person)
