We invite you to join us for a SPECIAL HIKE at our soon-to-be newest preserve – the Bailey North Fork Preserve, on Sunday, April 17th. We anticipate closing escrow soon to acquire this property along the North Fork American River at the bottom of the Green Valley Trail, and we want to show it off to the public by offering this unique hike and dedication.
This hike takes place in Alta and begins at 8:30am. It will be approximately 7.1 miles long round-trip and may take up to 6 hours to complete.
Difficulty: Rated strenuous with a 2,000 foot elevation loss/gain from the parking area. It is a steep hike downhill to the river and back up out of the canyon. Expect uneven ground and rough terrain.
This is a wilderness outing in a natural setting: there are no restrooms, benches, or water available. Please plan ahead and bring what you will need. We suggest you wear sturdy shoes and clothing appropriate for the variable foothill weather conditions.
Bring plenty of water, snacks and a sack lunch. We will eat lunch down by the river. After lunch, the official Placer Land Trust event will be over, and you can leave according to your schedule and at your own pace.
Don’t forget your camera! You may also want sunscreen and a hat. We have a “leave no trace” policy – if you pack it in, please pack it out.
Directions and a reminder will be emailed prior to the hike. The deadline to sign up is Thursday, April 14 and registration will close if the event fills up before then.
This special hike is FREE to attend, but space is limited. Carpooling is highly encouraged, and you may be asked to park at a location TBD to carpool the remaining way in. Because parking is limited, this hike is open to the first 20 people who sign up.
Participants must sign a release of liability which is available below. Please bring it with you.
