THIS EVENT IS FULL. PLEASE CHECK OUT OUR OTHER GREAT EVENTS.
They say the early bird catches the worm, so morning must be the best time for bird watching! Join us for Beginning Bird Watching on Sunday, April 30, at 8:30am. This excursion on the Taylor Ranch Preserve is open to all levels of birders; no prior experience necessary, and more advanced birders are welcome too!
We will saunter along the banks of Raccoon Creek and wend slowly through the Blue oak grassland looking and listening for year-round residents and migrating songbirds. We’ll practice basic birding identification skills and likely will get to know the common residents of this beautiful riparian forest habitat. Please bring binoculars and/or field guides if you have them. You might want to bring along a notepad to record notes of what you learned and saw. We are expecting to end around 11am.
Difficulty: This will be an easy outing with a small amount of hiking/walking involved, with some uphill and downhill travel on uneven ground and rough terrain. Some of the walking may be off trail in cow pastureland and may have cow patties and hoof print holes.
This docent led outing is in a natural setting in the wilderness: there are no restrooms, benches, or water available. Please plan ahead and bring what you will need. We suggest you wear sturdy shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather conditions.
You are encouraged to bring water and snacks to enjoy along the way. You may also want mosquito repellant, sunscreen and a hat. Feel free to bring your camera along too!
We have a “leave no trace” policy – if you pack it in, please pack it out.
Sorry, no dogs are allowed on our Preserves, unless service animals.
Children are welcome to attend, however this will be a slow moving tour with considerable standing, and participants will need to remain quiet in order to hear the birds. If you have an active, talkative child, this probably isn’t the best event for them.
Participants must sign a release of liability which is available here. 2017-blank-liability-waiver-photo-release Please print and bring it with you.
We ask for a suggested $10 minimum donation. Your donation helps us continue our work. We accept cash or checks at the event, or via credit card https://www.placerlandtrust.org/donate/ .
The event begins at 8:30am in North Auburn. Directions will be emailed after registration. Space is limited The deadline to sign up is Noon the Friday prior to the event unless the event fills up first.
