Treasured Landscapes Hikes
Placer Land Trust has hosted an Annual Treasured Landscapes Hike Series since 2007 giving people an opportunity to see the scenic and special lands in Placer County, which the community has helped us to protect through your generous donations. The featured hikes for 2012 are listed below. A registration page for each hike will be available online in the near future. Please check back!
Saturday, March 24, 2012 - Codfish Falls Trail Preserve
The first hike in our 2012 Treasured Landscapes Hike Series, Codfish Falls Trail Preserve was the first property protected by Placer Land Trust, acquired in partnership with Protect American River Canyons (PARC) in 1993 for its many public benefits. Surrounded by public land, the Codfish Falls Trail Preserve ensures that the Codfish Falls Trail remains open to the public in perpetuity. It is located along the North Fork of the American River south of Weimar. For more information on this Preserve go here.
Saturday, April 28, 2012 - Doty Ravine Preserve
The second hike of our 2012 Treasured Landscape Hike Series takes you to a grassland and vernal pool habitat along Doty Ravine, northeast of the City of Lincoln. This 427-acre preserve has been under our protection since 2005 as part of our West Placer Habitat Protection Program. Come see the new restoration projects going on in the wetland and riparian areas – and if the time is right you might see some spectacular vernal pool flowers too. To learn more about the Doty Ravine Preserve click this link. This will be a relatively easy, flat hike.
Saturday, May 19, 2012 - Oest Ranch - Lake Clementine Preserve
The third hike of our 2012 Treasured Landscape Hike Series overlooks the North Fork of the American River. Placer Land Trust worked with Daryl Oest and his family to put an agricultural conservation easement on the Oest Ranch - Lake Clementine Preserve. The property is located on the North Fork American River canyon rim above Lake Clementine. The preserve contains beautiful oak woodlands, grasslands used for seasonal livestock grazing, and a riparian corridor along a mile of Clipper Creek. This hike is moderate to hard so be prepared. Go here to get more information about this Preserve.
Saturday, June 23, 2012 - Canyon View Preserve
The last hike in our 2012 Treasured Landscape Hike Series highlights an ongoing rehabilitation project at this Preserve along Sierra Canyon Creek. The restoration includes the removal of invasive plant species plus stream bed enhancement and stabilization. The goal is to reduce sediment flowing into the North Fork American River to improve the quality of our drinking water supply. In 2010, Placer Land Trust resumed a multi-year grant project to restore stream function, stability, and habitat to the property, in partnership with local biologists and restoration professionals. Join us for this hike to see the progress we’ve been making. To learn more about this preserve

Spring Vernal Pool Hike - Swainsons Grassland Preserve - Date TBA
We are offering a special fifth hike in our series since so many of you are vernal pool flower fans. We don't have a date yet, we'll have to wait and see what Mother Nature brings for rain this coming spring. Since the best viewing of vernal pool flowers doesn't last long, this hike will be very short notice. By mid-March we will have a better idea of when the hike will be and we'll post more information. Stay tuned! To learn more about our Swainsons Grassland Preserve
