Wide Open Spaces
Public-Private Partnership for Conservation and Restoration
Toad Hill is privately owned while Placer Land Trust holds the Conservation Easement preventing development and promoting habitat restoration. Toad Hill Ranch is part of over 2,000 contiguous acres of permanently protected habitat and an additional 1,700 acres currently maintained as open space by the City of Roseville.
Grasslands
Native grasslands provide feeding grounds for Swainson’s hawk, listed as threatened by the State of California, and other native wildlife.
Vernal Pools
Re-creating vernal pools, historically present on this property, will provide habitat for the endangered fairy shrimp as well as birds such as great blue heron and egret.
Habitat Management
Livestock graze on invasive plants reducing seed stock, keeping fuel loads down and making room for native species, which increase forage for both livestock and native wildlife and can increase the overall health of veranl pools.
