For me all of my best memories are outside. They start early with a repeating image of traipsing through the forest with my father, mother, and sister. That is how we spent our weekends when I was a kid. It is the backdrop to my childhood: the quality of the light as it filtered through the trees and the fun we had talking and laughing, stopping for a snack in a spot with a nice view. It was just us in the woods.

I just repeated this experience with my parents and my own children in December. The joy and wonder we shared – all three generations together – has been added to my memory bank. I cherish the times, as well as the knowledge that I will have places to make new memories forever – trails that wind through the oaks, streams to dip our toes in on a hot day, the view over the valley or off to the Sierra Nevada.

At Placer Land Trust we protect the wild open spaces that provide the backdrop to your memories. Feel free to share the image with us – send a picture, and tell us a story!
