Volunteers boost Trust’s stewardship and outreach programs
Placer Land Trust recognized two outstanding individuals for their contributions to the organization during the past year.
Lea Bartels, a student from Germany, was named Placer Land Trust’s Volunteer of the Year for 2008. Lea spent last summer in Placer County, and chose to volunteer her considerable talents and enthusiasm to Placer Land Trust. In addition to providing office support, Lea took on the constantly challenging task of removing invasive weeds from Trust preserves, and worked tirelessly on the Trust’s Canyon Creek Restoration Project at the Stagecoach Preserve in Auburn.
Placer Land Trust also named Newcastle resident Karl Mertz as its 2008 Land Steward of the Year. Mertz has donated significant hours to the Trust over the past year, helping it manage and monitor Trust properties and easements from Roseville to Auburn. His reliable enthusiasm and support has enabled the Trust to stretch its stewardship dollars and provide more public benefit for less cost.
“Lea and Karl are remarkable individuals who’ve helped us in our mission to preserve Placer County’s natural and agricultural lands,” said the Trust’s Executive Director Jeff Darlington. “We’re very appreciative of their support!”
Placer Land Trust is a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization incorporated in 1991 and dedicated to working with willing landowners and conservation partners to permanently preserve natural and agricultural lands in Placer County.
