KIRK RANCH

WORKING CATTLE RANCH & OAK WOODLANDS

As part of our Bear River Watershed Protection Program, Placer Land Trust contributed funding for the permanent protection of the 281-acre Kirk Ranch in August 2007. Placer County purchased and will hold conservation easements on the ranch property in perpetuity, protecting it from development and adverse land use.

The Kirk Ranch lies across McCourtney Road from Camp Far West Reservoir in the Bear River watershed. PLT contributed funding for the project as part of its Bear River Watershed Protection Program, and as part of our efforts to protect Placer County's dwindling oak woodlands for future generations.

The majority of the funding for the conservation easement acquisitions came from the United Auburn Indian Community, Placer County, and the California Wildlife Foundation. Placer Land Trust's support for the project was funded by a donation from the Sky View Foundation.

In addition to containing valuable oak woodland and grassland habitat and water quality values, the Kirk Ranch is a working cattle ranch that is now permanently protected.
