Preserve Hikes

Docent Led Hikes

Come join us on one of our docent led hikes at Harvego Bear River Preserve and new hikes at our Big Hill Preserves in 2012!

The hikes will take place on the 2nd Saturday of every month, alternating between Harvego Bear River Preserve and our Big Hill Preserves. The winter and spring hikes will begin at 9:00am and should end around noon.  The hikes in July, August and September will start at 8:00am.  For a list of hike dates, check out our calendar.  There is currently no fee for these hikes, however a $10 donation is suggested.

Big Hill Preserve hikes - highlights include an opportunity to seen Coon Creek, Sierra Nevada foothill vistas, and hike along our newly created trail (currently not open to the public.)   Plenty of photo opportunities. This hike is approximately 4 miles long and takes about 3+ hours to complete. Hike: moderate to strenuous with uphill hiking and rough terrain.

Harvego Bear River Preserve hikes - highlights include hiking up Bald Rock mountain, views of the Bear River, and panoramic vistas of the area. (trail not yet open to the public)  This hike is approximately 4 miles long and takes 3+ hours to complete the loop. Hike: moderate to strenuous with uphill hiking and rough terrain.

These are wilderness hikes in a natural setting, so there are no restrooms, benches, or water available. Please plan ahead and bring what you'll need. Due to the length of the hike, these hikes are not advised for children under 8 years of age.

The deadline to sign up for hikes is the Thursday prior to the hike date.
