EXCEPTIONAL INDIVIDUALS
SUPPORTING THE MISSION OF PLACER LAND TRUST THROUGH VOLUNTEERISM
Placer Land Trust annually recognizes exceptional individuals in three categories who support the mission of Placer Land Trust and contribute to the quality of life in Placer County:
Placer Conservator
Land Steward of the Year
Volunteer of the Year
Placer Land Trust awards the Placer Conservator Award to individuals
or organizations that enrich the quality of life in Placer County
through resource conservation.
2007: Janice Forbes
2006: Joanne Neft
2005: Fred Yeager
In 2007, Placer Land Trust was proud to honor Janice
Forbes with the Placer Conservator Award. PLT presented Janice with
the award at the Placer Conservator Dinner & Ceremony on March 1, 2008,
at The Ridge in Auburn. Thanks to the many wonderful volunteers and sponsors
who made this event such a success.

Janice's many accomplishments include helping to create the Placer Legacy open space conservation program, publishing a weekly newspaper and quarterly magazine, and providing leadership for two exceptional organizations.
"Janice Forbes is an inspirational business leader who articulates the message that there is not a conflict between the environment and the economy," said Steve Frisch, President of the Sierra Business Council. "She has pioneered the message that the environment and the economy are joined together; creating new opportunities to do the right thing."
It is both vision and ability to articulate that vision that helped the founding board create the Sierra Business Council (SBC). Janice was not only responsible for bringing people to the table, but because of the success of SBC, it is now sought after as a national and regional leader in facilitating collaboration between the business and environmental community.
Janice also serves as the Board Chair for the Placer Community Foundation (formerly the Auburn Community Foundation) which provides grants to organizations across Placer County, many of whom work to protect the resources of Placer County. PLT was pleased to be a recipient of one of these grants in 2005. Moreover, Janice was instrumental in helping PLT preserve the 4.3 acre Auburn School Park Preserve in which PLT has a conservation easement on the heritage oak woodlands.
"Janice's personal leadership, as well as her funding
support through the Placer Community Foundation, was critical to the acquisition
of the School Park Preserve for the City of Auburn and the granting of a
conservation easement to PLT to permanently protect the heritage oak woodlands
within the park," said PLT Board member and past President Bob Gilliom.
"Janice has also been a regional leader and proponent of conservation
through publication of Sierra Heritage Magazine and her found role on the
Board of Directors of the Sierra Business Council."
