Using the conservation tool box to preserve land
PLT works with willing landowners to permanently protect land through various methods. The method of protection depends upon the type of conservation values to be preserved, and the needs of project partners (PLT and the landowner). PLT protects land either through acquiring land or by working with the landowner to place a conservation or agricultural easement on the land.
Land or easements may be donated or sold to PLT. For the landowner, there are financial incentives to selling or donating land or easements. A sale provides cash for the landowner, while a donation may provide tax benefits. A “bargain sale” combines the benefits of a sale and donation.
However landowners wish to preserve their land, PLT can offer technical assistance and land conservation expertise. The following links explain some of the steps that must be taken to successfully complete a land conservation project.
PLT’s goal is to create a “win win” scenario whereby willing landowners meet their personal and financial goals while preserving their land for future generations. The following link provides information about various ways that landowners can work with PLT to protect their land over time.
It is important to remember that in every land conservation project, PLT commits to protect the land in perpetuity … forever. For more information about PLT’s land stewardship obligations, click on the following link.
