Columbia Wetlands Preserve

Quick Facts:
  • 11 acres off Highway 193 in Newcastle
  • Protected since 1991

The Labadie family generously worked with Placer Land Trust to place a conservation easement on this property, which contains a pond, stream, wetlands, and oak woodlands in western Placer County.

Wetlands and Riparian Habitat

The Placer Land Trust conservation easement protects 11 acres of wetlands and stream habitat adjacent to Labadie farm. Protecting habitat around streams and wetlands ensures that nature’s filtration system remains intact reducing erosion and keeping watersheds healthy and clean. This area also supports migratory birds and other wildlife and preserves open space and scenery.

Protecting a “Sense of Place”

The conservation easement prohibits development and harmful activities such as grading, dumping, and mining, while allowing the landowner to continue to use portions of the property for recreational use.
