CANYON VIEW PRESERVE, BOWMAN
50 ACRES OF OPEN SPACE,
INCLUDING SCENIC VISTA, HABITAT, AND RIVER ACCESS
Working in conjunction with the American Land Conservancy and Emigrant Trails Greenway Trust, PLT took fee title possession of 50 acres of canyon rim land north of Auburn at the end of 2003, ensuring its permanent protection.
The "Canyon View Preserve" property is located along Lincoln Way at the Bowman exit of Interstate 80 north of Auburn. This property offers the best views of the Sierra Nevada mountains for many miles, and is a visual treasure to residents and motorists alike. Aside from the incredible scenic values, the property contains oak woodlands, wetlands, pine stands, grasslands, and diverse wildlife habitat.
PLT plans to build a loop trail on the Preserve, allowing the public to experience the beauty of the American River Canyon. The property is also an ideal setting for a future roadside trailhead leading into the adjacent Auburn State Recreation Area and down to the North Fork American River.
