Open Space, Scenic Vistas, Habitat, and River Access

Placer Land Trust’s American River Watershed program supports native habitat and water quality in the American River while creating and protecting public access to regional trail systems.

Riparian Restoration

Rehabilitation of Sierra Canyon Creek includes removal of invasive plant species and stream bed enhancement and stabilization to reduce sediment flowing into the North Fork American River improving the quality of our drinking water supply.  In 2010, Placer Land Trust is resuming a multi-year grant project to restore stream function, stability, and habitat to the property, in partnership with local biologists and restoration professionals.

Grasslands Management

Livestock graze on invasive plants reducing seed stock and keeping fuel loads down making room for native plants and increasing habitat for native animal species.  In 2010, Placer Land Trust is resuming a multi-year grant project to manage invasive plants on the property, in partnership with Flying Mule Farm and other grazing contractors.

Fuel Load Reduction

Constructing fire breaks and removing woody debris in the under story reduces fuel loads in the mixed conifer and oak woodlands forest protecting the property and its neighbors from fire danger.  In 2010, Placer Land Trust is resuming a multi-year grant project to reduce and manage fuel loads on the property, in partnership with CalFire and our neighbors.

Public Recreation

Placer Land Trust is planning to construct a public trail to connect Canyon View Preserve to the Auburn State Recreation Area, providing an additional access point to the trails on the North Fork of the American River.
