BETTENCOURT PRESERVE, AUBURN

75 ACRES OF OAK WOODLANDS,
CANYON SCENERY & WILDLIFE HABITAT

Placer Land Trust worked with the landowner of over 75 acres of canyon rim land north of Auburn to preserve the land through a conservation easement at the end of 2003, ensuring its permanent protection.

This preserve is located south of Maidu Drive below Falcon's Point. This property is situated above and along the American River in a gap between public lands (the Auburn State Recreation Area is to the northeast, and the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area is directly adjacent to the southwest). It contains beautiful oak woodlands, seasonal streams, pine stands, grasslands, and diverse wildlife habitat. The views of the American River Canyon are spectacular, and trails on the property lead down to the river south of the confluence of the North and Middle Forks.

Placer Land Trust is currently talking with adjacent landowners about preserving their lands, with the hopes of enlarging the Preserve to create a greenway between the two State Recreation Areas, offering more protected land along the river for wildlife, watershed protection, and outdoor recreation.
