Wildflowers!! This docent led hike will be all about wildflowers at our Harvego Bear River Preserve in North Auburn on Saturday, April 4 at 9:30am. Our docents will take you to an old homestead site that has rock walls, grinding stones, and should have an abundance of wildflowers.
In addition to learning about wildflowers, you will also hear about the history of the cattle ranch in this rolling oak woodland savannah setting, and the plans to link this preserve to other PLT preserves and Hidden Falls Regional park. This is about a 4 mile hike and will take 3+ hours to complete depending on how many stops are made.
Difficulty: Rated as moderate to strenuous with uphill and downhill hiking, on uneven ground and rough terrain. To look at flowers, you may be walking off the trail in pastureland with potholes.
This is a wilderness outing in a natural setting: there are no restrooms, benches, or water available. Please plan ahead and bring what you will need.
We suggest you wear sturdy shoes, long pants, and clothing appropriate for the weather conditions. Bring plenty of water and a sack lunch or snacks to enjoy along the way. Don’t forget your camera! You may also want sunscreen, a hat, and a small notepad to take notes. If you have any field guides or hand lenses, bring them along to help identify flowers.
We have a “leave no trace” policy – if you pack it in, please pack it out.
Sorry, no dogs are allowed on our Preserves.
Participants must sign a release of liability which is available below. Please bring it with you.
Liability Waiver & Photo Release
